As countries commit to high decarbonisation targets, the spotlight on green hydrogen has deepened, promising a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
“It is clear that green hydrogen is a critical aspect of the energy transition, and we’re currently in an exciting phase of market development,” Nicolas Poirot, CEO Africa Middle-East & India, Air Liquide.
The European Commission alone aims to cover about 10% of energy demand with hydrogen, amounting to 20 to 35 million tones annually.
Last month’s discussions at the Connecting Hydrogen MENA in Dubai, featuring panels of experts from diverse sectors, once again brought to the fore the growing momentum behind hydrogen technologies.
Saudi Arabia’s Neom Green Hydrogen Company is one of the several companies that are rising to epitomize this trend. “Our focus is on sustainable hydrogen production,” says Wesam Alghamdi, Chief Executive Officer, NEOM Green Hydrogen Company. He adds that the company’s plans to produce 600,000 tones of hydrogen annually by 2026 using renewable sources symbolizes a tangible commitment to carbon-neutral energy production.
