India is set to make a significant leap in its energy transition with plans to to implement 40GW of battery storage and 90GW of pump storage capacity by 2030, focusing on states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, said Srikant Nagulapalli, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, at the IEEMA Industry Conclave 2024 held in Delhi .
Nagulapalli emphasized India’s commitment to sourcing 50 Percent of its power capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030.
He outlined ambitious plans to add 85GW of solar capacity, alongside the 40GW of battery storage and 90GW of pump storage. "Our goal is 500GW from non-fossil sources, including 225GW from solar and wind.
Projects are progressing in land-rich states, and green hydrogen efforts are advancing in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat,” he said, highlighting the critical role these states will play in the country's green energy push.
India’s installed power capacity has crossed 440GW, with an additional 350GW expected by 2030.
