In a landmark step towards achieving India's green energy goals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for India's largest green hydrogen hub on November 29, 2024.
This ambitious project, located in Visakhapatnam, is set to bolster the country's position as a leader in clean energy innovation and decarbonisation efforts.
The green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam aims to be a state-of-the-art facility that will produce green hydrogen using renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
The project is expected to catalyse a transformation in India's industrial and transportation sectors by providing a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
The plant's production capacity will reportedly be one of the largest in the world, emphasising India's commitment to achieving its net-zero emissions target by 2070.
Once operational, the facility will supply green hydrogen to key industries such as refineries, fertilisers, steel, and cement, reducing their carbon footprint significantly.
Visakhapatnam, with its proximity to the coast, abundant renewable energy potential, and robust port infrastructure, has been selected for the project. This location will enable efficient transportation of hydrogen and provide access to global markets.
The project involves an investment of over 30,000 crore, with a consortium of private and public sector enterprises spearheading its development. It is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, driving economic growth in the region.
