The India Energy Week 2023, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bengaluru, aims to highlight India's rising position as a leader in energy transition.
The three-day event, which will take place from 6th to 8th February, will bring together leaders from traditional and non-traditional energy industries, governments, and academia to discuss the challenges and opportunities that a responsible energy transition presents. Over 30,000 delegates, 1,000 exhibitors, and 500 speakers will attend the conference, including more than 30 Ministers from around the world.
During the conference, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in a roundtable interaction with global oil and gas CEOs and launch multiple initiatives in the green energy sector. One of the key focus areas of the government is the ethanol blending program, which has seen a six-fold increase in production capacity since 2013-14. The program has not only enhanced India's energy security, but has also resulted in a reduction of 318 Lakh Metric Tonnes of CO2 emissions and foreign exchange savings of around Rs 54,000 crore. In line with the ethanol blending roadmap, the Prime Minister will launch E20 fuel, a blend of 20% ethanol with petrol, at 84 retail outlets of Oil Marketing Companies in 11 states and union territories. The government aims to achieve a 20% blending of ethanol by 2025 and oil marketing companies are setting up 2G-3G ethanol plants to facilitate the progress.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also flag off the Green Mobility Rally, which will feature vehicles powered by green energy sources and help raise public awareness for green fuels. Under the "Unbottled" initiative of Indian Oil, the Prime Minister will launch uniforms made from recycled polyester and cotton for retail customer attendants and LPG delivery personnel. IndianOil has adopted this initiative through the "Unbottled" brand for sustainable garments, which aims to meet the uniform requirements of other Oil Marketing Companies, non-combat uniforms for the Army, uniforms for institutions, and sales to retail customers. Additionally, the Prime Minister will dedicate the twin-cooktop model of IndianOil's Indoor Solar Cooking System and launch its commercial roll-out. The system is a revolutionary indoor solar cooking solution that works on both solar and auxiliary energy sources, making it a reliable cooking solution for India.
The India Energy Week 2023 also marks the launch of the National Hydrogen Mission and the development of green hydrogen. The mission aims to promote the use of hydrogen as a fuel for clean and sustainable energy, with a focus on developing green hydrogen produced from renewable sources. The event will provide a platform for the discussion of the challenges and opportunities in the development of green hydrogen and the role it can play in India's energy future.
