Indus Towers and IIT Madras Spearhead Green Hydrogen and BMS Research

Indus Towers, a prominent global telecom towers company, has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), to inaugurate state-of-the-art Research and Development (R&D) labs dedicated to green hydrogen and Battery Management Systems (BMS). Launched at the IIT Madras campus as part of the 'Pragati' initiative under Indus Towers' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, these labs represent a significant leap in sustainable energy exploration.

The inauguration ceremony, led by Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Regulatory Officer and CSR at Indus Towers, witnessed the presence of esteemed figures like Prof. Raghunathan Rengaswamy and Prof. R. Sarathi from IIT Madras, alongside faculty and students. Singh highlighted the company's CSR commitment, emphasizing the focus on amplifying the renewable energy ratio while steering away from fossil fuels.

The green hydrogen lab features a microgrid powered by a solar-driven hydrogen generation system employing fuel cells for energy distribution. This innovative microgrid is poised to energize common areas within IIT-M's Chemical Engineering Lab building. Serving as a modular field test rig, the lab will facilitate hands-on experimentation with small-scale electrolyzers and fuel cells. Additionally, it will be a hub for teaching, demonstrations, techno-economic assessments, and evaluating the levelized cost of hydrogen.

Simultaneously, the Battery Engineering Lab is geared towards the development of advanced Battery Management Systems, addressing critical aspects of safety and performance across diverse applications, with a special focus on Electric Vehicles (EVs) operating under challenging conditions.

Singh reiterated Indus Towers' unwavering commitment to supporting Research and Development in pioneering energy sources. The collaboration with IIT Madras exemplifies the company's dedication to advancing green technology solutions and fostering innovation in the sustainable energy domain.
