In a strategic move towards sustainable energy solutions, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is set to relaunch its tender for establishing a green hydrogen production unit. This decision aligns with IOCL's ambitious Rs 2.4 trillion green transition plan, aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2046. The initial tender faced challenges, leading to its cancellation and subsequent plans for a revamped approach.

The cancelled tender, which had stirred discussions and legal actions, called for a 10-kilo tonnes per annum capacity green hydrogen production unit at IOCL's Panipat refinery and petrochemicals complex. The company's decision to reissue the tender emphasizes its commitment to building a sustainable production base for green hydrogen—a critical component of India's national energy agenda.

Notably, IOCL's green hydrogen endeavors have been met with scrutiny, with bidders raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest. GH4India Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between IOCL and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), triggered discussions on the transparency and fairness of the tender process.
