L&T Makes History: First "Made in India" Green Hydrogen Electrolyser Unveiled

4 Mar 2024

Engineering Giant Paves the Way for Clean Energy Production in India

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has taken a giant leap in clean energy technology by successfully commissioning its first indigenously-manufactured green hydrogen electrolyser at their Hazira facility in Gujarat. This marks a significant milestone in India's journey towards green hydrogen production.

What's the Big Deal?

  • This 1 MW electrolyser, with the potential to expand to 2 MW, is a first-of-its-kind in India, manufactured using domestically sourced technology and expertise.

  • It utilizes cutting-edge electrolyser processing units (ML-400) developed by L&T, adhering to the highest international standards.

  • The electrolyser will undergo rigorous testing in the coming weeks to ensure optimal performance, paving the way for large-scale manufacturing.

Green Hydrogen: Powering a Sustainable Future

  • Green hydrogen is produced through electrolysis of water powered by renewable energy sources, making it a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional fuels.

  • L&T's electrolyser technology plays a crucial role in this process, offering a cleaner and more efficient way to generate hydrogen.

L&T's Ambitious Plans:

  • L&T, through its newly formed subsidiary L&T Electrolysers Limited, is committed to scaling up green hydrogen production.

  • They plan to leverage their giga-scale facility in Hazira to meet the growing demand for green hydrogen, while maximizing local production and cost-competitiveness.

  • L&T Electrolysers has also been awarded a significant 300 MW per annum production capacity under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, further solidifying their commitment to this clean energy revolution.

L&T's achievement marks a significant step towards a greener future for India. This innovative technology has the potential to revolutionize the energy sector and pave the way for a more sustainable tomorrow.
