Odisha Government Greenlights Rs. 903.41 Crore Green Energy Projects

Odisha Government started their green energy journey with a big investment.

Bhubaneswar, June 28: In a significant push towards a sustainable future, the Odisha government has approved green energy projects worth Rs 903.41 crore. These projects, with a combined capacity of 102.22 MW, were sanctioned by the Single Window Committee (SWC) of the Energy Department on Thursday.


Major Investments in Wind Energy

  • HPCL Renewable and Green Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), is set to invest Rs 440.58 crore to establish a 48 MW wind energy project at Umerkote in Nabarangpur district.

  • ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited will develop a 49.5 MW wind energy project at Astaranga in Puri district, with an investment of Rs 440.7 crore.

The total investment for these two wind energy projects amounts to Rs 881.28 crore, marking a substantial step forward in harnessing wind energy in the state.


Expanding Solar Power Capacity

In addition to wind energy, several solar power projects have also been approved:

  • Visaka Industries Limited will implement a 0.72 MW solar project at Maneswar in Sambalpur.

  • ITC is set to establish a 0.8 MW solar project at Jatni in Khurda.

  • AMP Energy will develop a 2.2 MW solar project at Kansbahal in Sundargarh district.

  • Odisha Television Limited will set up a 1 MW solar project at Sarua in Khurda district.

The total investment for these solar projects stands at Rs 22.13 crore, further enhancing Odisha’s renewable energy portfolio.

The sixth meeting of the SWC, chaired by Principal Secretary of Energy Vishal Dev, highlighted the state’s commitment to green energy and sustainable development. These projects reflect Odisha’s proactive approach in adopting renewable energy solutions, contributing to the broader goal of reducing carbon emissions and fostering a cleaner environment.
