State Sets Ambitious Target for Green Hydrogen Production and Unveils Attractive Incentives
The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has taken a significant step towards a greener future by approving the Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy, 2024. This ambitious policy aims to:
Boost green hydrogen production: With a target of one million metric tonnes per annum by 2028, the state is poised to become a leader in clean energy production.
Unlock massive investment: The policy is expected to attract over ₹1.95 lakh crore in investments for 19 green hydrogen and ammonia projects already proposed by investors.
Create employment opportunities: The policy is estimated to generate 1.20 lakh jobs by 2028, providing a much-needed boost to the state's economy.
Key Highlights of the Policy:
Financial incentives: Green hydrogen projects will receive capital subsidies of 10% to 40%, depending on the location and scale of the investment.
Land benefits: Government and revenue land will be leased at significantly lower rates for green hydrogen projects, with village/government land available for 30 years.
Tax exemptions: Green hydrogen projects will benefit from 100% exemption on stamp duty charges and electricity duty for the first 10 years.
Renewable energy focus: Land will be allotted for solar energy units to power green hydrogen production, and renewable energy consumed will be considered towards fulfilling renewable purchase obligations.
Knowledge and innovation: The policy proposes establishing two centers of excellence and promoting startups and incubators to foster research and development in green hydrogen technologies.
Environmental advantages: Green hydrogen projects will receive a white category status for environmental clearance, streamlining the approval process.
Overall, the U.P. Green Hydrogen Policy is a comprehensive and forward-thinking initiative. By offering attractive incentives and fostering innovation, the state is well-positioned to become a major player in the green hydrogen revolution, creating a cleaner and more sustainable future.
